Need to ID drain piping under sink

Wed, 03/20/2013 - 02:00
Below kitchen sink and yes that trap at the disposal is off and has DIY written on it but my concern is the pipe which comes out of the wall on the right side and slants down and back into the wall with a cleanout.

Any ideas why that would be there ?
Sure does not look like an island vent however from the roof the vent is about 20 feet away as far as I can tell.

This was a 113 year old loft conversion of an old movie studio.

High Temperture at service lug?

Tue, 03/19/2013 - 21:39
One of the aluminum service wires at a sub panel I inspected today had a tempeture of about 135 degrees (at the lug). I have always used 140 degrees as a threshold for breakers but I do not know if this tempeture is of concern at the service lug. I know the temperture of the wire is less than it is rated for, however does a temperture at this level indicate a possible loose connection at the lug?
Any thoughts.

electrical

My outlet tester had all 3 lights light up from an outlet. I've hit it with another tester and got the same result. I'm sure this isn't good. How does this happen and how should I explain it to a customer?

False Winds

Tue, 03/19/2013 - 19:22
I'm in possession of a substantial amount of Wind Mits from a Condo complex written in 2008. These reports are so messed up, false and even deceptive. I'm writing the new ones and now they are going from a great looking report to absolutely the lowest rating allowed. These were written by a GC here in Fort.
Is something like this just to pass and move on or is something on this scale ever mentioned to anyone ? I just never seen anything like this before....

Pressure Relief Valve

Tue, 03/19/2013 - 01:32
During my inspection on Sunday I noted that the boiler was leaking, and upon further investigation found that the pressure relief valve was leaking. I took one picture of the valve and wanted to get a better picture, just as I clicked the picture and the valve went off like old faithful. Scared the crap out of me!!

This is a good reason to recommend that there be a Pressure relief valve drain line on the boiler.

The boiler was short cycling and steam could be seen coming from the valve also.

Spectoscope???

Tue, 03/19/2013 - 01:25
Does anyone have experience with the Spectoscope, which allows you to take roof photos while standing on the ground? The images are transferred from the camera atop a tesescoping pole to a telephone. I wondered if there is a way to swivel the camera from the ground and how clear are the photos?

Rafters on smaller Ridge board

Tue, 03/19/2013 - 00:51
The cut ends of the rafters should come in contact with the entire ridge board. Correct?
What I need is supporting evidence/documentation.

Nathan & Dominic: Does HON reveal or sell our client's information to alarm salesmen?

Mon, 03/18/2013 - 22:24
In other words, if I'm a member who signs up for this HON thing under the belief that I'm helping my clients... will salesmen try to sell my clients stuff like alarm systems, etc?

I'm not anti alarm system or anything, I just want to know what is being done with my client's contact info.

Feeding subpanel

Mon, 03/18/2013 - 21:43
I inspected a house today that had a 100 amp subpanel in the basement being fed from the main service panel in the garage. The large wire coming from the sub panel is hanging loose in the main panel & has I think # 12 spliced & taped up (1 white & 1 Black)& then tapped into a double wide breaker. Any comments?

Bird mouth splices

Mon, 03/18/2013 - 21:31
I found what looks like repair work to valley rafters where bird mouth splices were used. The workmanship was sloppy and there were gaps at the bottom. The splices were nailed. I'm calling out the workmanship just wanted to get some opinions on it
