Termite cert needed in miramar tomorrow

Tue, 05/14/2013 - 14:00
Hello to all.

If you have a termite guy that could do an inspection and provide a cert please leave their name and number.

Regular guy is booked. Lucky him. He may come through he may not so I want to have some guys to call if he does not by the end of the day.

There was another guy who sent out a ton of emails around a year ago claiming he would do them free for inspectors. I called him and it is not free anymore so that pissed me off.

Client will be paying anyhow he just rubbed me the wrong way.

If you know someone dependable that may be able to do it tomorrow please post their info.

Thanks in advance.

Sediment trap codes.

Tue, 05/14/2013 - 02:27
I need to know when the laws were changed for sediment traps being installed in gas supply line when installing a new water heater or furnace.
What year did the new requirements take place.
Here is a water heater installed in 2010.

Why Would There Be A Hot Spot On This Furnace?

Tue, 05/14/2013 - 01:14
Today I was inspecting an Armstrong Air oil fired furnace and on the outside ofthe casing the temp hits 265 degrees in one spot only (conveiniently already marked hot spot). So I'm thinking crack in the heat exchanger or burner chamber but the service company says the insides probably shifted a little over time closer to that wall of the casing. Any opinions. There used to be a humidifier mounted above this area but it is no longer installed.

What is the time limit or expiration of a home inspection report.

Tue, 05/14/2013 - 00:24
Hi Every One.
I have a home I inspected back on 3-1-13.
There are a lot of issues the main being the roof. Built up with gravel.
My question is how long till "it's been too long" for the existing inspection is no longer valid.
The first buyers walked and now a new buyer wants to buy the home.
I am unsure if the roof repairs have been made but it's the main reason the first buyer walked.
The second buyer is from a different Realtor and they the Realtors "don't know about the previous inspection".
So what is the protocol for this action. This is a time sensitive question.
They want the inspection in the morning.
Best, Clint McKie

"Calibrating" message on my Fluke TiR1

Mon, 05/13/2013 - 17:18
Hi guys

Im new to the world of IR Imaging so please forgive me if my question sounds primitive. I have recently bought Fluke TiR1 thermal imaging camera as I will need it for the dissertation. I feel like a little kid with my new toy scanning everything around me. However, every so often approx. 1min screen freezes for approx. 1sec while it says "calibration" on the screen and goes back to normal operation.

I wonder if there are any TiR1 users that could tell me if that's something that I should worry about and could possibly indicate a faulty unit or this is is completely normal.

Kind regards

Mariusz Podogrski

Update on OntarioAchi

Mon, 05/13/2013 - 15:19
I would like all to know that we have many projects on the table as Board Members and committee. We have not forgotten about any of the projects we are working on but as the days go further into the most busy time for all directors we could use more volunteers to stretch out more responsibility of this New Association. You can work on a project with us and pull out at anytime. What we can't do is slow down so please help by Volunteering.
Next big step we have is getting Education available to those Home Inspectors that are not InterNachi Inspectors yet but are affiliated with us.;)

fs: fluke ti55ft

Sun, 05/12/2013 - 20:14
hello all,

I recently acquired a fluke ti55ft from a relative that passed away. I have everything that came packed in the original heavy duty pelican case besides the charger (couldn't find it). the camera has been tested (via ac adapter that was included) and was recently calibrated, I believe (based on a receipt inside the box). I can get pics of anything, including serial numbers and model numbers. I'd be happy to answer any other questions, as well. considering the date of purchase in conjunction to when my relative passed away, I can tell you the camera was not used very much, at all.

What would you say about this?

Sun, 05/12/2013 - 18:48
This is the underside of a valley in a concrete roof of a house in Mexico. I'm used to seeing the bottom of a valley resting on an exterior wall. This home was about 30 years old and there was no sign of cracking any where in the ceiling, so I see it as a cantilever and am not calling it a problem.
Feel free to comment.

I am downsizing my inspection business

Sun, 05/12/2013 - 13:05
I went from an Astro van to a Chevy HHR. I had to make a few modifications to get the ladder in but it is working out great. I cut my fuel bill in half.

NICK Please Help!

Sun, 05/12/2013 - 09:17
I'm getting pretty tired of OAHI publicizing that their designation is the "only designation recognized by the Ontario government". This is a slap in the face of all who inspect in Ontario and never felt like paying out the @ss for the meaningless title of Registered Home Inspector (RHI) from a bankrupt association with barely a footprint in the Ontario inspection industry in terms of membership. Its basically a nice way of saying-"you dont pay us, so you're a fraud. Buyer beware he isn't a Registered Home Inspector!" Yes, the government recognized the title for their members. Yippy. It should not be touting itself as the governing body of all of us. Or the only one that matters or is "legit" in the industry. This week alone I had to explain to 3 potential clients what InterNACHI is and what OAHI isn't. If I haven't been booking 2 a day for the last 3 weeks I'd be infuriated. But wasting time to explain this to the public is trying my patience. I have no issue educating anyone who has a question about this industry. Ever. But, this whole "RHI is the only real deal" thing needs to be squashed.

Nick, you conquered ASHI now PLEASE help out your over 650 Ontario NACHI Home Inspectors. Those in the biz know what InterNACHI represents. But maybe it's time the public knew too!

Thanks

Doo you work with any kydex for holsters or sheaths for tools?

Sun, 05/12/2013 - 04:26
I am considering working with kydex to make some custom tool holders MT-6, Ruler, Sharpie, moisture meter, temp gun etc...

I am looking for anyone who works with it as a hobby or a second job for advice or used tools.

Let me know if you are involved with making things out of kydex or similar products.

I think it may be an interesting and fun and useful hobby to get involved with and l am looking for some used tools. Presses, eyelet setters band saws, band sanders. Kydex Or similar material that you do not intend on using. I'll try anything just to learn if the price is right or "FREE" :) If you give me the stuff I'll give it my best shot to try to make whatever you want. I just want to learn.

I know next to nothing about it but think it would be fun. I purchased Mike S.'s kitchen Kydex so I have a little knowledge and am looking to get started.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice,
Mke
